Services

The Tae Shin Do Self Defence School offers a number of different services:

Ju Jitsu:  This is the primary focus of the Tae Shin Do Self Defence School.  Ju Jitsu is an ancient martial art that was originally taught to the Samurai warriors so that if they lost their sword during a battle, they could still be able to defend themselves against armed assailants.  Tae Shin Do Ju Jitsu does not teach Ju Jitsu in the traditional sense.  It concentrates mainly on weapon attacks, group attacks and taking the assailant down in the quickest time possible.  The fundamental principles of Ju Jitsu are still maintained. Ju Jitsu classes don't operate during School Holidays or Public Holidays.

Private Lessons:   For those that don't want to go through the long process of grading through the belt system in Ju Jitsu, but still want to learn the self defence techniques available, private lessons are another option.  Although more expensive, these lessons are one-on-one, or one-on-two classes that teach the student the most important skills needed for an individual to adequately defend themselves if required.  These lessons are a very effective learning tool as the student has the instructors undivided attention for 100% of the time, and lessons can be paced depending on the students level of learning abilities. Private lessons are available to people who live within 30kms of the Raymond Terrace, Medowie and Maitland areas.  If you want to enquire about private lessons in Raymond Terrace or Medowie, go to the "Contact" link to request further details. If you live in the Maitland area and are interested in Private lessons, contact Burt on 0428 499 471.

Women’s Self Defence Classes:  The Tae Shin Do Self Defence School offers short courses consisting of either: 10, one hour lessons, or an entire day (usually a Saturday), for females as young as 12, to give them a basic ability in self defence.  These lessons don't just enhance their self confidence or provide you with the skills you might need in a confronting situation, but they also to give you an active interest in the martial arts which can lead to joining a club in the future.  The techniques used are specifically designed for women and children because you don't need great strength to carry them out.  They rely on the use of the "Small Circle Theory" and the natural flaws in the design of the human body.  When used correctly, they provide an effective self defence capability. Classes are broken into beginner and advanced classes.  Regardless of your previous martial arts skill level (if you have one), the beginner class must be completed before the advanced class. For more information on this or any of the other services mentioned above, please go to the "Contact" page.

Small Circle Theory:  This is the theory that describes the techniques developed by Professor Wally Jay under the official title of "Small Circle JujitsuTM".  These techniques are designed to cause severe pain to the joints of an aggressor in order to achieve a release from a hold or a submission, by the use of very little force.  The small circle theory is the term given to a "push - pull" action that attacks a joint and causes intense pain to the owner.  For example, by applying of a small amount of effort against a fully extended joint against the normal direction the joint moves, an immense amount of pain can be inflicted.  This "push - pull" action can be used by a person on a much stronger aggressor and still causes severe pain or damage to the joint under attack.  Putting this theory into practice can turn someone into a very potent weapon and is particularly useful for women and children as intense pain can be created by the use of very little force.  For more information on the Small Circle Theory, please visit Prof. Wally Jays' website at: http://www.smallcirclejujitsu.co.uk/
